The Fearsome Giant

Saturday 14 September

The BIGG Theatre Auditorium

Suitable for 5 – 9 year olds

Running time 35 – 40 mins

Pity poor Prince Frederick!

He is scared of everything. EVERYTHING! Little things, big things, things which might happen, things which might not happen, things which only exist in his imagination.

Poor Fred is exhausted with worry. However all his fears seem insignificant when a huge, scary, fearsome giant comes to the sleepy kingdom of Merryhaven and terror runs through the streets! With the help of his one true friend – Twiglet the dog – can Fred overcome his own fears; overcome the giant and bring calm to Merryhaven?

This production was commissioned by ‘The Conversation, Stamford’ as part of their “anxiety project” – a series of workshops dealing with worries, phobias and stress in children, particularly years 1 and 2. This show has proved to be a powerful “opener” for in-class discussion on what causes anxiety in children. But ultimately it is a jolly good Tall Tale!

This story is adapted from the telling of Taffy Thomas, first Laureate for Storytelling, and has its roots in Welsh tradition. Widdershins has turned the tale into a heart warming production, with its trademark puppets, props and original music (Martin Thornton).
